Academy Information

Our Teaching and Learning

At Churchwood we want to inspire our children to flourish and achieve their best. In order to do this, the academy provides a knowledge-rich curriculum with the intent of closing the knowledge gap between the advantaged and disadvantaged. Our classrooms may be the primary source of knowledge for our most vulnerable pupils and so we guarantee knowledge through the design of our ambitious curriculum, whilst also supporting children with special educational needs, in order to close the attainment gap.

Our curriculum is relevant, exciting and meaningful and responds to the needs of the individuals within our learning community. Each subject’s curriculum is planned and sequenced so new knowledge builds on what has previously been taught. Using the national curriculum as a basis, subjects are coherently planned and sequenced developing pupils’ knowledge with the aim being that all children know more and remember more of the content they have been taught at Churchwood.
