Churchwood Primary Academy is a small, friendly academy with a wealth of educational expertise in a picturesque woodland setting.

Our vision is reflected in the over-arching University of Brighton Academies Trust’s, to create a vibrant, inclusive community, transforming lives and broadening horizons through excellent teaching and learning.

We respect each child as an individual, guiding and supporting them to reach their full potential. Through high quality teaching and learning our children develop knowledge and skills giving them confidence, independence, determination and ambition which will shape their futures.

We are committed to work in true partnership with our parents and carers, as you are the ones who know your child the best. It is important to us as an academy that we foster strong home-school links so that we can work collaboratively to allow your child to flourish while they are at Churchwood.

We look forward to sharing our academy with you and answering any questions you may have.

Our Teaching and Learning

At Churchwood we want to inspire our children to flourish and achieve their best. In order to do this, the academy provides a knowledge-rich curriculum with the intent of closing the knowledge gap between the advantaged and disadvantaged. Our classrooms may be the primary source of knowledge for our most vulnerable pupils and so we guarantee knowledge through the design of our ambitious curriculum, whilst also supporting children with special educational needs, in order to close the attainment gap.

Our curriculum is relevant, exciting and meaningful and responds to the needs of the individuals within our learning community. Each subject’s curriculum is planned and sequenced so new knowledge builds on what has previously been taught. Using the national curriculum as a basis, subjects are coherently planned and sequenced developing pupils’ knowledge with the aim being that all children know more and remember more of the content they have been taught at Churchwood.

At Churchwood Primary Academy, we provide education in a creative way that inspires and motivates children to learn
