At Churchwood Primary School, we believe that a child's wellbeing is the foundation for success. When children feel happy, safe and supported, they are more confident and better equipped to achieve their full potential, both in the classroom and beyond.
Our school is a welcoming and inclusive environment where every child is known, valued and heard. We prioritise strong relationships, mutual respect and a sense of belonging so that all pupils feel confident to learn, grow and express themselves.
Wellbeing is embedded throughout our curriculum and daily school life. Through PSHE, PE and wider school experiences, children are taught essential life skills, including how to manage emotions, build positive relationships and develop resilience. We also provide regular opportunities for mindfulness and self-reflection to support emotional balance and personal growth.
Children are taught about self-regulation and strategies to support their emotional wellbeing through our work on the Zones of Regulation. This approach helps pupils to recognise, understand and manage their emotions, enabling them to develop greater independence and confidence in responding to different situations.
To ensure that every child receives the support they need, we have a range of systems in place. Our dedicated staff are skilled in recognising when children may be experiencing difficulties and provide early, compassionate support. This may include a listening ear, small group sessions and targeted interventions focusing on areas such as confidence, self-esteem, anxiety and emotional wellbeing.
We work closely with the School Mental Health Team, who provide a range of interventions and support programmes within school to promote pupils' mental health and wellbeing. Through this partnership, children can access specialist support when needed, helping them to thrive both socially and emotionally.
Churchwood Primary School is also proud to be taking part in the 'Five Ways to Wellbeing' initiative, led by the Local Authority's Mental Health Support Team. This exciting initiative is designed to enhance the mental health and wellbeing of our children and foster a happier, healthier school community. Throughout the year, we focus on the Five Ways to Wellbeing:
Each term, we focus on one of these key themes and share updates through our newsletters. We will also provide ideas and practical suggestions to help families support their child's wellbeing at home.
We work in close partnership with families, external professionals and wellbeing specialists to ensure a joined-up approach to supporting every child. At Churchwood Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that no child feels alone. Every pupil is supported to feel secure, empowered and ready to succeed within our caring and nurturing school community.
